✀ SIZING GUIDE
✀ SEWING INSTRUCTIONS
Reminder that seam allowances are 1 cm (3/8″) wide, unless stated otherwise. Also, sew RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER!
This is a knit project, so be sure to select a stretch stitch
when sewing on a regular sewing machine. If you’re not sure which
stitch to choose, check your sewing machine manual. Otherwise, you can
assemble this pattern with a 4-thread overlocker (or serger).
- Sew the front and back bodices right sides together at the shoulder. Press the seams to the back.
- Fold the neck band lengthwise wrong sides together, then sew it on the bodice, to the neckline. You'll need to stretch the band to make it fit into the neckline and match the shoulder notches. Lift the band and press.
- Overlap the front bodices to match the center front notches. Baste the overlapped parts.
- Sew the front and back bodices right sides together at the underarm seam, from the sleeve opening to the waist. Turn the bodice right side out.
- Sew each hem band at the short sides so you have two cuffs. Fold the cuffs lengthwise wrong sides together. Then, sew the cuffs to the sleeve openings. You'll need to stretch the cuffs to make them fit into the sleeve openings. Lift the cuffs and press.
- Sew the waistbands together at the short sides. You'll have two waistbands. Then, place the two waistbands wrong sides together. Match the short sides.
- Right sides together, sew one side of the waistband to the bodices. You'll need to stretch the waistband to make it fit into the bodice. Be sure that you sew both layers of the waistband to the bodice.
- Right sides together, sew the pockets to the front legs, at the pocket opening. Fold the pockets to the wrong side of the legs and press the pocket opening edges. Then, fold the pockets, right sides together, to match the side seams. Sew the bottom of the pockets. Baste the pockets in place near the waist and side seams.
- Right sides together, sew the front and back legs together at the side seams and inseams.
- Turn one leg right side out and thread it into the second one. The legs should be right sides together. Then, sew the crotch. Turn the trousers right side out.
- Sew each bottom cuff at the short sides so you have two cuffs. Fold the cuffs lengthwise, wrong sides together. Then, sew the cuffs to the bottom of each legs. You'll need to stretch the cuffs to make them fit into the legs.
- Right sides together, sew the top of the trousers to the remaining edge of the waistband. You'll need to stretch the waistband to make it fit into the trousers. Be sure that you sew both layers of the waistband to the trousers.
- Fold the drawstring lengthwise, right sides together, and sew the long edge. Turn right side out with a loop turner and knot the ends. Then, sew the middle of drawstring to the front belt, so its aligned with the crotch seam.
- Finally, try the garment and pin the front bodice where you want the neckline to cross-over and mark with a chalk. Then, sew the sew-on snap on the neckband, according to the markings. Be sure to place the snap so it will not visible and when you sew, catch only one layer of the neckband. If you prefer to not use a snap, you can also make a discreet topstitch near the edge of the neckband to keep the front bodices in place.
Good luck with your sewing project! ✀✀
